Naturally if you are a Patriot fan the outcome was disappointing, but the game was entertaining at least.
The Redbirds of West Frankfort (WF) shut out the Massac County Patriots in the second half, thwarting two last quarter drives, and held on for a 21-14 win over the homestanding Patriots.
Massac forsook its usual backfield formation for a version of the “wildcat” with Daz Nickerson taking the snaps in place of Cameron Koch.
In an effort to get the ball in the hands of their most potent weapons, Nickerson ran the offense which consisted of him and fellow back Jordan Troutman for the most part.
Massac’s new formation worked fine for the first two quarters as Massac punched in their first score with 9:24 left in the first quarter. Massac took over on the Redbirds’ 25 yard line after Trey Copley recovered a Frankfort fumble.
