Wilfred Horntrop, 101, of Metropolis, passed away at 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at his home.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Zion United Church of Christ in Metropolis with Dr. James D. Nelson officiating. Music will be provided by Connie Hefner, organist/pianist; and Steve and Norma Korte, soloists.

Burial will follow at St. John’s Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alan Schaffer, Marvin Eckenberg, Jerry Windhorst, David Gragg, Jerry Gentry and Monte Bremer. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Bormann and Eugene Stratemeyer.

Wilfred was a lifelong farmer, and his hobby was woodworking. He specialized in grandfather clocks.

He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and always had a smile and a greeting for everyone, friend or stranger.

He is survived by one sister, Frieda Koch of Metropolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Alvena Busclas Horntrop; and his wife of 69 years, Ruth Wehrmeyer Horntrop.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at the church.
