Mr. VanMeter was a member of Local 500 IUPAT and was a General Tire employee for 11 years. He worked for Gibsons Sawmill and Pace Industries and was self-employed until he became disabled.
He was a great husband, Dad and grandfather, who gave freely and loved much.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Connie VanMeter; three sons, William Keith VanMeter of Owensboro, Ky., Cory Wilkins of Brookport and David Wilkins Jr. of Metropolis; one daughter, Christina Hocker of Madisonville, Ky.; 12 grandchildren, Stephanie, Kaitlynn, Brooklyn and William Kaine VanMeter, Hannah, Raven and Micheal Wilkins, William Miciah, Kadence and Holly Wilkins and Kirsty and Blaise Hocker; four brothers, Gary and Allen VanMeter, Roger Gibson and Dwight Ewing; four sisters, Teresa Smith, Lisa Gibson, Wilma Campbell and Linda Morrison; and his stepparents, Roy and Sherry Gibson.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Flonzie Gibson; his father, Gene VanMeter; one brother, Randy Gibson; one sister, Betty Surrett; two daughters, Stephanie and Carrie Van Meter; his grandparents, Arlie and Pearl Gibson and Marjorie Van Meter; one nephew, Michael Gibson; and his in-laws, Richard and Peggy Corzine.
Funeral service was held Saturday at Brookport Funeral Home with Rev. Shane Baker officiating.
