The Massac Youth Soccer League (MYSL) concluded its spring season with its last round of games in Metropolis May 23-24. This while achieving another all-time record number of players for the local league.
Player numbers increased by over 15 percent from the previous record-setting fall season to leap over the 200 player threshold. Twenty-five MYSL teams formed across multiple age groups from Under-4 (U4) to the traveling junior high age boys and girls teams.
Compared to MYSL’s first season in fall 2011, total registration numbers have seen an additional 100 more players from the local community — “an incredible level of growth,” said Troy Lawrence, current president of the Massac Soccer Boosters Association which oversees management of the MYSL.
“Though we have grown rapidly since the creation of our own youth soccer league, the soccer board believes this is still just the beginning, and are anticipating even bigger and better things ahead. It’s an exciting time for soccer and the community as a whole,” Lawrence said.
MYSL plays in the fall and spring seasons of the year and offers co-ed recreational play for ages 3 through the eighth grade.
Registration for the fall season will be held July through early August. Forms will be available on the Booster’s website, visit www.massacsoccer.com, beginning in July.
