Nearly 1200 archers were in town for the Illinois Pro/Am Championships on Friday through Sunday; however, due to heavy rains that hit the area Sunday morning, the competition was suspended and awards were given out at 10 a.m. from the tallies of Friday and Saturday score sheets.

Organizers felt attendance was down some from last year, due to the campground being closed following historic flooding earlier this spring at Fort Massac State Park.

On a brighter note, 281 shooters participated in the annual Superman Classic, competing for $15,000 in prize money.

“We had record attendance on the first day of the three-day Classic, which is great news for our tourism efforts,” said Angie Shelton, Metropolis Tourism director.
