Strader “Grampy” Sidener Jr., 81, of the New Liberty community of rural Pope County, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Metropolis Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mark Staton officiating and military graveside rites conducted.

Mr. Sidener was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He was a farmer and a laborer with the Local 773 and worked for Smithland Locks and Dam.

He was of Baptist faith and belonged to Calvary Baptist Church in New Liberty.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Winters and friend Matt Casar and Nita Sanders and husband D’Wayne, all of Pope County: one grandson, Matthew Winters and friend Nikki Shockley; special cousins, Wilma Belford, Linda Smith and Marvin and Juanita Harris; and his special friends, Kyle Jacobson, Christopher Holbrook and Neil Schuhardt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Strider Sr. and Lena Buchanan Sidener; and his wife, Wanda Hall Sidener.
