Betty Ruth Dummitt Scofield, 73, of Metropolis, passed away at 3:17 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011 at her home.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Crossroads Outreach Ministry in Joppa.
Betty was born on March 17, 1938 in MacArthur, Ohio, the daughter of the James and Beatrice Weiand Townsend. She married Joseph Dummitt in Columbus, Ohio and he preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 2005. She was later united in marriage with Robert Scofield in Metropolis and he survives.
Mrs. Scofield worked in quality control at the electronics division of Rogers Corporation in Mesa, Ariz. She later worked as a seamstress with Nationwide Glove Company in Metropolis.
Mrs. Scofield was a member of Crossroads Outreach Ministry. In her spare time, she loved photography, playing the piano at church, spending time with her family and grandchildren and helping the community when needed.
Besides her husband, other survivors include three sons, Benjamin and wife Angela Dummitt of Joppa, Barry and wife Katherin Dummitt of Burna, Ky. and Thomas and wife Vanessa Dummitt of Metropolis; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jim, Joe and Jerry Townsend; three sisters, Irene Townsend, Helen Bethel and June Ann Linley; and by several nieces, nephews and many friends.
In addition to her parents and first husband, Betty was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Kelley; and by a sister, Donna Reefer.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
