James E. “Red” Davison, 90, of Joppa, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011 at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.

Born Nov. 7, 1920 in Gilbertsville, Ky., Mr. Davison was an operator with the International Brotherhood of Operating Engineers Local 318 for 65 years. He was a Mason for 56 years and a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving as a Seabee in World War II.

Survivors include his stepson, Gary Gray and wife Sherry of Metropolis; two grandchildren, Darin Gray and wife Lori and Heather Deckard and husband Drew, all of Metropolis; four great-grandchildren, Addie, Makenzie and Sadie Gray and Graycee Deckard all of Metropolis; one sister, Edith Ice of Cairo; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lou Elizabeth Davison; his wife, Mary L. “Mel” Davison; and three sisters.

Funeral service was held Tuesday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. John Keihl officiating.

Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens with military rites conducted. Pallbearers were Darin Gray, Roger Barnhill, Randy Lambert, Dennis Lewis, Casey Waldon and Drew Deckard.
