In a 6-2 vote Monday, the Metropolis City Council adopted an amendment to its Family Medical Leave Act, or FMLA, ordinance.

On a similar subject, the full council approved the ordinance creating a policy on maximum absenteeism for city employees across the board to city employees. It states that regardless of the reason for the absence, within nine months the employee has to return to work or the employee will be discharged.

Both ordinances came before the council for first readings at its Nov. 14 and for further discussion at a Nov. 22 Ordinance Committee meeting.
