After beating Calloway County on Dec.8 in the final game of the City of Metropolis tournament, the ladies went south to Murray Friday night and again met up with the Lakers in the finale of the Heritage Bank Holiday Classic. The outcome this time wasn’t quite as dramatic as the first time but according to coach Keith Shelton, just as gratifying.
“They were just so good last year with Averee [West Virginia signee Averee Fields] that we might have been a little surprised back at home to beat them. This game here tells the tale though. Henley [Kristina] played maybe the best game she’s ever played, she was fearless. Karsen [Smith] had a great tournament also. She and L.B. [Lauren Bunting] were rugged under the boards and I think we outrebounded every team we played here,” explained Shelton. “Actually, we’ve outrebounded almost every team we’ve played this year. And it was nice for Kaylee [Childers] to come back solid after a sub-par game against Lexington [Tn.].”
