Robert “Bob” Ernest Reinhardt, 82, of Mt. Vernon, formerly of Vienna, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 at his home.

Born Sept. 19, 1929 in Pickneyville, Mr. Reinhardt retired from Southern Illinois Power Plant at Lake of Egypt in Marion. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Reinhardt played basketball for Southern Illinois University and for the U.S. Navy, where he was a veteran of the Korean War.

He was a member of Beggs-Gurley VFW Post 5222 of Vienna, where he served as past commander.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Shirley L. Rixie Reinhardt of Mt. Vernon, formerly of Massac County; one daughter, Debbie Stewart and husband Jeff of Mt. Vernon; one son, Bill Reinhardt and wife Ysabel of Boca Raton, Fla.; one brother, Charles Reinhardt of Canon City, Colo.; four grandchildren, Nick Reinhardt, Neal Reinhardt, Jordan Thompson and wife Ashton and Lisa Bickel and husband Jeff; one stepgrandson, Kyle Stewart; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Elizabeth Feltmeyer Reinhardt; and one brother, Archie Reinhardt.

Funeral service was held Friday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna with Jeff Stewart officiating. Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by Beggs-Gurley VFW Post 5222 in Vienna.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital of Memphis, Tenn.

Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon was in charge of arrangements.
