Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29 at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro with Kim Capel officiating. Burial will follow at Anna City Cemetery.
He was born on Sept. 5, 1938 in Metropolis, the son of David D. and Hazel Yost Kennedy. He married Susan Knupp on Aug. 12, 1961.
David was a lifelong waterfowl biologist with a bachelors and masters degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
In his early career, he worked for both the Indiana and Illinois Departments of Conservation. He was hired by Ducks Unlimited in 1976.
Survivors include his wife, Susan; one daughter, Jodie Kennedy Cotton of Anna; one son, John David Kennedy of Fort Collins, Colo.; four grandchildren, Ian Kennedy, Jeremy Cotton, Kaleb Cotton and Jillian Cotton; many cousins and other relatives; and his caregivers, Diane Aumiller, Pat Moore, Gracie Mayberry, Sondra Craig and Dixie Baggott.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Leo and Jessie Knupp of Vienna; and his faithful canine companions over the years Buck, Abe, Beau, Groucho and Bandit.
Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, St. Louis Chapter. Memorials will be accepted at the funeral home.
