Mrs. Wetherington retired from Massac Unit One school district, where she was an elementary school teacher. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Metropolis. She became a member of the Fort Massac Chapter of the DAR on Feb. 1, 1964 and was a past Regent. She graduated from Metropolis High School in 1948, received her associate of arts degree from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. in 1950, and a bachelor of science in education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1973.
Survivors include her husband of over 61 years, Milton E. “Bud” Wetherington, currently of Brentwood; one daughter, Carol Holloway of Winter Park, Fla.; one son, M. Sturgis Wetherington and wife Susan of Parker, Colo.; three granddaughters, Laura Weatherson of Larkspur, Colo. and Megan Holloway and Kara Holloway, both of Winter Park; one great-grandson, Liam Weatherson of Larkspur; one sister, Jean Easley of Brentwood; and several nieces and nephews, including two nieces, Pam Pfeffer and Jan Baker, both of Nashville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lindell Wymore and Viola Jones Sturgis.
Funeral service was held Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Metropolis with Rev. Jon Cockrel officiating. Music was provided by Stecia Gregory.
Burial followed at the Masonic Cemetery in Metropolis. Pallbearers were Jacob Lampley, James “Jamie” Pfeffer, Richard Trampe, Tom Mittendorf, John Stanton and Dan Goins. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Fidelis Sunday School Class and Philip M. Pfeffer.
