Storms affect the area, disaster relief fundraisers planned

Storms seemed to invade much of southern Illinois last week as an EF2 tornado grazed Massac County around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday as it had left a trail of damage through western Kentucky before crossing the Ohio River into Massac County.

That same morning, an EF4 tornado touched down in Saline County, leaving about 300 homes and 30 businesses destroyed. The storm also claimed the lives of six people as it tore through the town. Those victims were Jaylynn Ferrell, Mary Ruth Osman, Lynda Lou Hull, Greg Swierk and Randall and Donna Rann.
