In a 6-1 vote during Monday’s Metropolis City Council meeting, members approved moving forward with what is nicknamed “the Black Beauty project.” Alderman Richard Corzine was the dissenting vote, citing the motion had no cost attached to it. Alderman Kim Brown was absent from the meeting.
According to the city’s Industrial Committee chairman Bob Midnight, the business contacted the State of Illinois indicating interest in locating a steel mill plant in southern Illinois, specifically naming Metropolis and Mt. Vernon.
