Clyde L. Douglas, 93, of Karnak, died at 12:25 p.m., Monday, April 16, 2012 at Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Douglas was born April 6, 1919 in the Hillerman community in Massac County. He married Opal Basham Douglas on July 11, 1938. They shared 73 wonderful years together. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and retired from Trunkline Gas Company in Joppa.

Mr. Douglas was a life member of the National Rifle Association and a charter member of Vienna VFW Post 5222. He was an avid outdoorsman and also enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Basham Douglas; 2 sons, Clyde Douglas Jr. and wife Bonnie of Pendleton, Ore. and Roger Dale Douglas of Karnak; one granddaughter, Julie and husband Brannon Birrer, and their four children, Taryn, Tori, Tyson and Thane Birrer of Lake Tapps, Wash.; one granddaughter-in-law, Cindy Douglas and her two children. Mitchell and Samantha Douglas of Boone, N.C.; and one brother, Wayne Douglas and wife Darlene of Anna.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Birdie Douglas; two sisters, Delphia Hill and Lillian Douglas; two brothers, Raymond and Clark “Corky” Douglas; and one grandson, Jeff Douglas.

Funeral service was held Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak with Rev. Jeff Barham officiating. Burial followed at Anderson Cemetery in Boaz. Military graveside rites were conducted by the National Guard Funeral Detail Team and the Beggs Gurley VFW Post 5222 in Vienna.
