Peggy A. Sawyer, 85, of Metropolis, passed away Monday, April 30, 2012 at her home.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Metropolis Memorial Gardens with Rev. Gary Motta and Rev. Jon Cockrel officiating.

Mrs. Sawyer is the daughter of Thomas Olen and Sula Brown Cromeenes She was born on June 11, 1926 in Champaign and was raised in the Carbondale area.

She was a member of the Metropolis First Methodist Church and the F.O.E. 145 of Pueblo, Colo.

She married George F. Sawyer of Moro and to this union, three children were born: Mike Sawyer and wife Marianne of Bennington, Vt., Tonya Sawyer of Metropolis and Todd Sawyer and wife Michelle of Davenport, Fla.; her grandchildren, Heather and Leslie; one great-grandson, Kolby; her stepgrandchildren, Wendy and Jamie and Joey and Josh; several step-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Balsters of Glen Carbon and Babs Vandoren of Bethalto; her special great-niece Morgan and great-nephew Chase, both of Glen Carbon; along with other nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Sawyer; one brother, Bob Cromeenes. She was the granddaughter of Tom and Rose Cromeenes of Metropolis and the niece of Reed, Paul and Frances Cromeenes.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 3000 Kelly Land, Springfield, IL 62711.
