American Legion, Amvets and VFW members in Metropolis will be placing flags on veterans’ graves in Metropolis on Saturday.
“Due to the fact that we are losing more and more veterans every year and are putting out close to 2000 flags, we are asking for volunteers to help,” explained Peggy Mitchell, American Legion Post 306 spokesperson. “Anyone wanting to help needs to be at the American Legion Hall, located at 321 Market St. in Metropolis, at 7 a.m. on Saturday.”
A catered breakfast will be served at 7 a.m. for those helping, with individuals going out to local cemeteries following the breakfast.
The Metropolis Boy Scouts will assist the veterans by picking up the flags at area cemeteries on Monday afternoon.
For additional information, call the American Legion after noon at 618-524-2043.
Memorial Day services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30 at Memorial Park in Metropolis next to the public library, sponsored by the Amvets, American Legion and VFW.
The posting of colors, invitation to veterans and opening prayer by Rev. David LeNeave will be presented.
