Jean D. Wright, 80, of rural Simpson, died Monday, June 25, 2012, at Carrier Mills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Dec. 21, 1931 in Johnson County, Mr. Wright was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran from 1952–54 and served in the Korean War. He was discharged with the rank of corporal.

He was employed as the foreman over the horticultural department for the University of Illinois Agricultural Center near Dixon Springs for several years prior to his retirement.

Mr. Wright was a member of Glendale United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Sally Smith and husband Steve of the New Columbia community, Donna Tindle of Murphysboro and Zena Wells and husband Jerry of Simpson; one son, Jackie Wright and wife Nancy of St. Croix, Ind.: 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Speck and husband Wayne of the Brownfield community; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Claris Kerley Wright; his wife of 48 years, Juanita Rose Smiley Wright; and three brothers, Hal, Bill and Dewey “Buster” Wright.

Funeral service was held Friday at Glendale United Methodist Church with Pastor Delbert Pancake and Rev. David Wright officiating. Burial followed at Glendale Cemetery with a military flag presentation being held by members of the Illinois National Guard Burial Honors Detail.

Bailey Funeral Home of Vienna was in charge of arrangements.
