The four-ball format benefit tournament, which goes a long way towards funding the boys’ and girls’ programs at Massac County High School, was held Friday at Metropolis Country Club and drew an overflow field of 25 teams.
Boys’ coach Brandon Thompson and girls’ coach Kim Futrell were both a little surprised by and very appreciative of the turnout and the community’s support of the two highly successful programs.
Thompson said he thought they had almost 50 hole sponsors in addition to the 25 team entries. To go with that, they reported several individual donations.
“This community never ceases to amaze me when it comes to helping us with this golf program”, said Futrell. “We had a nice day for the outing, a big turnout and some crazy low scores.”
As far as winners go, in addition to the two programs who are the beneficiaries of the community largesse, the winning score was posted by the Morlan Auto team consisting of Preston Brewer, Lee Childress, Gail Giltner and Greg Graves, who posted a 20 under par, 51 to take first place honors.
