The Metropolis Soccer Complex’s high school fields are now ready, and excitement is building for Massac’s first-ever home soccer games.
Both the boys and girls programs have had to play their first two seasons as an all-away schedule while awaiting development of the complex and an establishment of a full grassy field.
“The playing surface is great, and the kids, along with myself, are excited to finally get to play our games on it,” said Patriot Head Coach Marty Painter after a recent test scrimmage with the players.
To break in the field’s prior to the official opening with the first home game on Thursday, Aug. 30, the Massac Soccer Boosters are hosting a Meet the Soccer Patriots on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Festivities will include player introductions, player skill contests and an intra-squad scrimmage.
Hamburgers and hot dogs, along with merchandise sales of Patriot Soccer items, will be for sale at the concession stand.
A gate donation of $2 per person, with a maximum of $10 per family, is being asked to help out with the future purchase of warm-up shirts for the team.
Parents, grandparents, classmates and the general public are invited. Attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chair for seating.
