The Massac County sixth-grade Patriots took the field Saturday at Murphysboro.

They took on the Carbondale Terriers in a well-played 26-0 loss.

Both teams struggled to run the ball against stout defenses, so Carbondale took to the air and passed their way to the final score.

Massac was led on defense by Hunter Parker who had 11 tackles, with five of those behind the line of scrimmage.

Tyler Willis had seven tackles and Andrew Klaffer and Dawson Troutman also contributed with defensive stops.

On offense, the Patriots struggled but were led by Marshon Merriel, who had a couple of nice runs.

Massac’s next game is Saturday at Carterville at 1:30 p.m.
