Before the season started, Massac County’s head soccer coach Marty Painter reckoned that a .500 season would be pretty good. I think he got more than he reckoned for.

With the school’s first ever win in state tournament competition, the three year old program made history with a 7-2 win over Valmeyer.

Dalton Mitchell turned a hat trick with three goals in the win over the Pirates from the little river town just south of St. Louis.

Here is a historical note: If you remember the flood of 1993, Valmeyer was devastated and as a result was relocated to a bluff top.
