County Treasurer Floyd Sullivan brought in the full weekly financial report, indicating the negative balance in the general fund. Sullivan told Commissioners Jerel Childers and Commission Chair Billy Hillebrand that with reimbursement from the County Highway Department — of about $22,000 — that the county general fund would be boosted to about $15,000.
Hillebrand noted the county would have three payrolls in October.
Sullivan also reminded the board next Tuesday, Oct. 23 is the final deadline for property owners to pay the second installment for their property taxes. Sullivan did say that many people have already paid both installments.
According to Sullivan, he estimates so far the county has collected a little over $9 million of an estimated $13 million the county is expected to collect. Massac County collects money for several taxing districts within the county.
Massac County Highway Engineer Larry Glasco told the board the contractor installing a new bridge on Sielbeck Road has informed him that the bridge will be taken out later this week and the road will be closed. Glasco said there are road construction signs already in place and most people living in the vicinity are aware that the road will be closed. Glasco also said the contractor will put signs in place announcing the road is closed. He told the board he is being hopeful and estimating the bridge project might last for a month.
