Going into the title game, the two teams had combined records of 62 wins and 9 losses.
Massac County entered the championship game with a ledger of 31-5 and Marion rolled in with an equally gaudy resume of 31-4.
The pundits got it right with the seeding also as Marion entered the tournament as the number one seed and Massac earned the number two ranking.
The game lived up to expectations and then some. The biggest deficit of the night, by either team, came early when Massac dropped behind the Wildcats by three points at 4-1 in the first set.
But from there till the final points it was nip and tuck.
