The IHSA football state tournament quarterfinals will be held at various locations this weekend.

From this end of the state Carterville, DuQuoin and Harrisburg are the standard-bearers.

In Class AAA, Carterville is somewhat of a surprise survivor and now faces the unenviable task of stopping Greenville.

In Class AA, the DuQuoin Indians will host Camp Point after defeating Johnston City and Bismarck.

In first round AAA action, the co-op team of Vienna-Goreville won their first ever playoff game, beating Sesser-Valier 14-6.

They weren’t so lucky in their second round game however as they faced the aforementioned Greenville Comets.

The number one seeded Comets, playing in the AAA quarterfinals for the second straight year, dominated Vienna-Goreville 42-2.
