Even though Floyd Sullivan was not present at the Tuesday Massac County Commissioners meeting, his resignation and the appointment to the position of treasurer were among the main topics of conversation and action.

On the agenda was the appointment of a new county treasurer to fill Sullivan's position when he vacates the office on Dec. 28.

Prior to the appointment, State's Attorney Patrick Windhorst met with the commissioners, who handed him two letters given to the board by Sullivan.

ng as chairman and commissioner for the last time as new county officeholders will be sworn in next week, asked Windhorst to comment on both letters.

Windhorst told the board that according to Illinois law, once an officeholder provides an unconditional letter of resignation with a future date of departure, it may not be withdrawn.

After Windhorst gave his opinion on that matter, Hillebrand announced the commissioners had received a letter from the Massac County Democratic Party Chair Mary Ruth Brannon stating the Democratic Party's nominee for the appointment is Randall Rushing.
