Last Tuesday night, the girls also took the measure of Calloway County in their second game of the City tournament.
Emily Hoard keyed a nice fourth quarter comeback against the Lady Lakers with nine points, two steals and an assist in the final frame.
Trailing 38-35 entering the fourth quarter, Hoard and company ratcheted up their game and finished strong in the 58-52 win.
Hoard led the ladies with 17 points while tourney MVP, Lauren Bunting, kicked in 16. Gracyn McBride added 11 for the ladies.
Thursday night’s three point overtime win over Ballard was not for the faint of heart.
Ballard used a frantic pace and a scrambling defense to force Massac into a slew of turnovers before Massac was able to slow things down somewhat and get about their business.
Massac took a slim 13-11 first quarter lead with Ballard tying things up at the intermission at 24 all. Ballard used some serious quickness and gang rebounding to build an 11 point lead in the third quarter.
Taylor Klankey led the girls back with the first of her three three-pointers as the ladies cut the lead to four points at the end of the period.
Klankey canned her second huge triple to start the final quarter and it was “game on.” Jessie Douglas made three of four free throws in the final two minutes of regulation to tie things at 55, while Massac kept Ballard off the board for that same stretch.
