Mr. Gentry served six years in the U.S. Naval Reserves as a Yeoman Third Class Petty Officer. He served two active duty tours in the Vietnam Era, one overseas for two years ending in 1972 serving on the U.S.S. Desoto County LST 1171 and the other at Great Lakes in 1974.
Mr. Gentry worked in the car business for over 30 years.
He was the finance, insurance and business manager at Wilson Chevrolet in Paducah. He also worked in retail car sales at Gentry Motor Co.
Mr. Gentry was baptized April 18, 1979, shortly after the birth of his first son and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Terri Hickman Gentry of Flowery Branch; two sons, Jeffrey Gentry and Justin Gentry; two grandchildren, Jacob Gentry and Jenna Gentry; three sisters, Wanda Mizell, Linda Howard and Sharon Gentry; four brothers, Jimmy Gentry, Benny Gentry, Jerry Gentry and Tommy Gentry; his in-laws, Clayton and Betty Hickman; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Thelma Brown Gentry; and one nephew, Jeremy Taylor.
Funeral service was held Monday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Mike Shank officiating. Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
