The Lady Patriots scored a couple of nice wins last week against Benton and Herrin but suffered a huge loss Saturday against Tilghman.

The workmanlike win in Benton’s East gym Wednesday night cemented the ladies’ claim to the SIRR Ohio division crown and the nice comeback Thursday night over Herrin was icing on the cake.

All that was left was the matchup Saturday with Paducah Tilghman’s talented Blue Tornadoes. But that much anticipated battle just didn’t hold the same intrigue after it was learned that Massac sophomore Emily Hoard underwent a surgical procedure that most likely ended her year.

To add insult to injury, Lady Patriots’ Taylor Klankey, a senior, suffered a fractured wrist late in the Tilghman game.

For sure, health is a big part of the game, but two huge losses like these at this stage of the game had coach Keith Shelton despondent.
