Ruby Mae Mathis, 90, of rural Belknap, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at Hillview Health Care Center in Vienna.

Born July 28, 1922 in Pulaski County, Mrs. Mathis was a homemaker and, in earlier years, a member of the Massac County Homemaker’s Extension. She was a member of Vienna Church of Christ, where she had taught Sunday school. Mrs. Mathis attained her GED when she was in her 60s.

Survivors include her children, Dena Farmer Phillips and husband Jim of Hardin, Ky., Sherry Ward and husband Tony of Anna, Marla Wyatt and husband Tracey of York, Neb., Tony Mathis of Belknap and fiancée Tracey of Metropolis, Terrie Mathis of Altadena, Calif. and Mark Mathis of Belknap; 14 grandchildren, Rhonda Denson, Glenda Wyatt, Scott Farmer, Jayson Farmer, Belinda Moore, Pam Dudek, Michael Chapman, Natalie Taylor, Michael Phillips, Jennifer Wyman, Nick Ward, Jesse Wyatt, Lauren Wyatt and Cody Wyatt; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Farmer of Metropolis; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Ora Modglin Leek; her first husband of 15 years, Carlos Farmer; her second husband of 38 years, Daniel Mathis; one son, Ronnie Farmer; one daughter, Bonnie Chapman; one son-in-law, Larry Chapman; one sister, Dorothy Holcomb; and two brothers, Ed Leek and Bill Leek.

Funeral service was held Tuesday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna with Bro. Bill Brandstatter officiating.

Burial followed at Berea Cemetery, located southeast of Vienna. Pallbearers were Scott and Jayson Farmer, Michael Chapman, Nick Ward, Jesse Wyatt and Chuck Denson.
