A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16 at Healy Chapel, located at 370 W. Division Dr. in Sugar Grove.
Mr. Staples served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War then shortly after his discharge, he moved to the Aurora area, where he lived for 50 years prior to moving to Metropolis.
Survivors include his one daughter, Donna Mason and husband David of Metropolis; four sons, Carl M. Staples and wife Shirley of Montgomery, Steven Staples and wife Michele of Crystal Lake, James Staples and wife Kristine of Wheaton and Jerald Staples of Schaumburg; his grandchildren, Joshua Staples and wife Ginger of Jonesboro, Brittnye Wise and husband John of Yorkville, Amanda Staples of El Paso, Texas, Alex Staples of Montgomery, Ty Staples and Taylor Staples, both of Crystal Lake, Jack Staples and Haley Tenute, both of Wheaton, and David Mason and wife Kelsey, Bodhi Mason and Matthew Mason, all of Metropolis; one great-grandson, Hayden Staples of Jonesboro; eight sisters, Virgina Fern Jines of Mt. Vernon, Dorothy Dale of Big Rock, Linda McClintock and husband Larry, Vicky Simmons, Shirley Colville and Diane Cox and husband Brad, all of Rock Falls, Peggy Wittenben and husband Mike of Love Lady, Texas and Debra Hallen and husband Herb of Dover; four brothers, Virgil W. Staples and wife Janice of Mt. Vernon, Larry Staples and Philip Staples, both of Rock Falls, and Ricky J. Staples; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Virginia Staples; and two brothers, LeRoy Staples and John Staples.
