It wasn’t the fact that Massac County lost last Wednesday night in the Carbondale 3A sectional, it was the manner in which they lost.

What was a gutsy, hustling, overachieving team all year, the Patriots picked the worst possible time to play poorly as they fell to Mt. Vernon, 63-39.

Unlike some games the Patriots were involved in this year, the final score of this one was dead on.

Massac misfired a couple of times in the opening seconds of the game on shots, which they normally would make, and from there, things just snowballed.

Daz Nickerson got the Patriots on the board with a three after the Rams jumped out to a 5-0 lead.
