For the fourth consecutive year, Massac County Junior High’s Lady Trojans will compete for a Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association (SIJHSAA) Class L championship.

The girls are looking to duplicate prior successes as they earned a third place finish in 2010 and brought home a title in 2011. Sporting an unblemished 25-0 record this group hopes to leave their mark on the SIJHSAA record book as they tangle with Triad on Saturday at noon in Pinckneyville.

Coach Zach Miller wasn’t particularly confident about his charges as they came out of the gate slowly in regional final play against Marion and had their hats handed to them in the first set. But the spanking served as a wake-up call as the girls returned the favor in the second set. The deciding set was a come from behind effort again for the girls as they battled back from a 7-4 deficit to get within one at 10-11. Seventh-grader Ellie Weber held service for the final five points as Massac posted the 15-11 final set win.
