While it wasn’t as well attended as last year’s first home game for the boys’ soccer team, the inaugural Lady Patriots home soccer game went off without a hitch.

Well, sort of.

A wet, soft field, 40-degree weather, an off-and-on rain and a little sleet for good measure made for a 0-0 tie and some numb spectators.

Neither team could muster a lot of offense as there just weren’t a lot of shots on goal. Neither team looked particularly physical on defense either. But who could blame them as spectators watched from the sidelines in hats, gloves and insulated coveralls and from under umbrellas and blankets.

The scoreless tie wasn’t thrilling for Massac or for visiting Mt.Vernon, although a few of their fans said this was their warmest game of the young year.

Under somewhat better conditions, the girls kicked off 2013 with a 2-0 loss at Harrisburg earlier in the week.

The junior varsity notched a 6-0 win at Harrisburg as Hailey Williams, Emilee Fugate and Tahneshia Bradshaw all scored goals for the Lady Pats.
