Verna was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Metropolis.
Verna is survived by a daughter, Theresa Jones and husband Gary of Olive Branch, Miss.; one son, Gene Gurley and wife Linda of Metropolis; five grandchildren, Candace VanderBoegh and husband Kevin of Paducah, Hunter Richardson and wife Shannon of Oxford, Miss., Ben Richardson of Olive Branch, McKenzie Bruer and husband Jeremy of Arlington, Ky. and Ashlee Busclas and husband Marty of Maryville; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lawanda Farris of Metropolis, Freda Fuqua of Marion, Ohio and Mary Collins of Bruce, Moss.; two brothers, Lloyd Fick of Metropolis and John Fick of Vienna,; and several nieces and nephews, including one special niece, Linda Sielbeck of Grand Chain.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Lydia Hinners Fick; her husband of 57 years, Walter “Buck” Gurley; and one brother, Ed Fick.
Funeral service was held Tuesday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. David Deem officiating.
Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Robert Fick, Hunter Richardson, Ben Richardson, Jeremy Bruer, Larry Markus and Lee Markus. Honorary pallbearers were Jackson Bruer, Jarren Bruer, Jayden Bruer and Marty Busclas.
