Lady Patriots’s senior lefthander Kaylee Childers tossed that rarest of gems Monday afternoon against Goreville with a 21 up, 21 down perfect game.

Childers recorded 11 strikeouts in the 5-0 win and didn’t allow a ball out of the infield.

The perfect game, however, wasn’t without its moments.

In the fourth inning, second baseman Jordyn Smith knocked down a bullet headed for right-center and fired a strike from the seat of her pants to first to save a hit and in Goreville’s final at bat, Childers got a bare hand (forearm) on a missile headed for center and when the ball ricocheted to surehanded shortstop Jessie Douglas the final out was secured on Douglas’ rifle shot to first baseman Jessi Stunson.

Childers got her team on the board in the first inning and her run would turn out to be all she needed.
