In Massac County, mention the date May 6, 2003 and those who lived through the devastation of the F4 tornado that ravaged portions of extreme southern Illinois will be able to tell you exactly where they were on that destructive night.

May 6, 2013 marks the 10-year anniversary of the disaster, which left a trail of destruction from Pulaski County on a northeasterly path all the way to Pope County. Many homes were demolished, lives turned upside down and lives lost.

Shortly after the disaster, the Metropolis Planet and Shadow Angel Foundation published a book titled Terror in the Night with stories and photos of some of those affected. The Planet recently caught up with three families touched by that night of terror. Their stories begin here and continue, with more scenes of that night, on pages 6-7A in this week's Metropolis Planet.
