With 52 wins between them and four losses — all Nashville’s — the game was expected to be a dandy and it was. Featuring strategy, dominant pitching, defense and timely hitting, Massac County was able to push across three runs, winning 3-0, and Lady Patriot ace pitcher Kaylee Childers made the runs stand up.
Locked in a scoreless tie in the fifth inning, Jordyn Smith got things rolling for Massac with a double — her gazillionth of the year — and advanced to third on Jessi Stunson’s single.
Brittany McFall then put down a bunt and on a safety squeeze play. Smith went headfirst into home ahead of the tag and Massac had all the runs they would ultimately need.
