Born Oct. 1, 1922 in Kingsburg Calif., Mr. Shelton was the son of the late Harve and Kate Shelton. Although he was born in California, the family returned to Massac County.
An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Shelton drove a fuel truck for Mobile Oil and later worked for Hinner’s Bros. as a service manager until he moved to Florida in 1966. He retired from Federal Millwork in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and moved to the Ocala area in 1985.
Mr. Shelton filled an important place in the lives of his family and many friends. George will be remembered for his great stories, generosity and laughter. He will be truly missed and never forgotten.
Survivors include his daughter, Diane Giltner and husband Louis; one grandson, David Giltner and wife Colleen; one granddaughter, Debbie Giltner and companion Chris Kirvin; one sister-in-law, Mary Shelton; one brother, Thomas Shelton and wife Frances; two nephews, Mike Shelton and Hosea Jump and wife Jeanette; and two great-grandsons, Ben and Jake Giltner.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Opal Shelton; one brother, Charles Shelton; and three sisters, Floy Jump, Hautie Cockrel and Clara Hausman.
Funeral service was held Tuesday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. David Deem officiating. Burial followed at Zion Cemetery.
