Millege Bremer, 78, of Massac County, died at 7 a.m., Thursday, May 16, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family after a long, hard battle with illness.

Mr. Bremer was a teacher, principal and coach at New Columbia Elementary School and taught at Jefferson Elementary School and Pope County High School. He attended and was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Massac County.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Cynthia Campbell Bremer; his son, Bradley Bremer and wife Sue of Colebrook, Conn.; two daughters, Brenda Glastetter and husband Gary of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and Carol Bremer of St. Louis, Mo.; two grandsons, Jason Glastetter and Ted Bremer; one granddaughter Caroline Bremer; two brothers, Reuben Bremer and wife Dorothy and Dale Bremer and wife Jane, all of Massac County; one sister, Mildred Wilson, of Massac County; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Carrie Krueger Bremer; his father, Noah Bremer; and one brother, Lloyd Bremer.

Funeral service was held Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Don Lindner and Rev. Ken Gibson officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Jason Glastetter, Ted Bremer, Jeff Bremer, Doug Hawes, Adam Westerman, Gary Glastetter, Larry Markus and Mutt McDearmon. Honorary pallbearers were Eric Deasel, Chris Quatlebaum, Ronnie Koch, Gene Tilker, Jon Stewart, Gale Hunerkoch, Juan Bautista and Price Coakley.

Miller Funeral Home of Metropolis was in charge of arrangements.
