Gladys was born on April 7, 1931 to Henry and Amanda Windhorst Foss Sr. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion E & R (United Church of Christ) at the age of 14. She played the organ and piano at her church for 68 years.
Her health forced her to stop playing in church last year, but she continued to play the piano at the nursing home until Good Friday Services this year.
She played for many weddings, funerals and volunteered countless hours playing for services at the nursing homes, Happy Hearts Senior Center and the Eastern Star Masonic Lodge.
She was united in marriage to Howard Travis on April 19, 1956 and was a devoted wife until his passing in 1994.
She and Howard were never blessed with children of their own; however, they loved entertaining their nieces and nephews and other children in their neighborhood with snacks, fun, games and the bicycle built for two.
She retired from IKT Auto Parts Store after working there for over 40 years.
Besides her parents and her husband Howard, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Carl Foss and wife Irene and Henry Foss Jr.; her sisters, Mildred Mescher and husband Dynamite and Geneva Sommer and husband Bob; and one brother-in-law, Kenneth Travis.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Lois Foss and Betty Travis; brothers-in-law, Don Travis and wife Norma and Bob Travis and wife Shirley; and many cousins and countless friends.
A memorial service was held Monday at Zion United Church of Christ with Dr. James Nelson and Rev. David Deem officiating. Music was provided by Connie Hefner.
