After a thorough evaluation and inspection of plant modifications at Honeywell uranium conversion plant, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has determined that the company can resume all NRC-licensed activities.

“We have inspected the changes made by the company and found that the facility has taken the necessary actions to meet NRC requirements,” said NRC Region II Administrator Victor McCree. “Honeywell has appropriately enhanced the plant’s ability to withstand earthquakes and tornadoes.”

In a letter to Honeywell employees from Honeywell Plant Manager Larry Smith, he said with the final NRC approval the plant will be able to begin full production upon completion of its comprehensive restart preparations. “We anticipate being ready to restart within the next 7-10 days,” writes Smith.
