Massac County property owners will need to check their mailboxes, as Massac County Treasurer Dana Jones told the commissioners at Tuesday morning’s board meeting the real estate tax bills were mailed out on Monday.

The first installment date has been set for Friday, Aug. 23 and the second installment date will be Tuesday, October 15. Jones said by law there has to be 30 days in between installment dates. But, that is the minimum amount. So, taxpayers will have about a month and a half between the installment dates to pay for their property tax bills. The extra time in between the property tax installments is to give more time to taxpayers because the county and Massac County Supervisor of Assessments Gary Hamm have been working toward getting the county’s property tax bills back onto its correct cycle after two years of bills going out later in the year.
