John Hudson, 76, of Paducah, formerly of Metropolis, passed away at 10:38 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 at his home.

John was a school crossing guard at Paducah Middle and Clark Elementary Schools. He was dearly loved by his students, to which he was known as the “man in the hat.”

John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Henson Hudson of Paducah; two daughters, Deidre Savage and husband Larry and Tammi Moore and husband Mike, all of Paducah; two sons, John Hudson and wife Balinda of Paducah and Doug Street and wife Sandy of Simpson; eight grandchildren, Amanda Tucker and husband Jason, Rachel Sutton, Chris Eaton, Cody Savage, Matt Moore, Charley Moore, Jessie Street and Shawn May; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Gertrue Barrett Hudson; one brother, Dewey Hudson; and sister, Betty Terry.

Visitation was held Sunday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
