Born Sept. 21, 1929 to Reuben H. and Sophia W. Bremer Windhorst, Mr. Windhorst was raised in Massac County but lived his adult life in Orland Park.
He worked and retired as an ironworker. He belonged to Chicago Local Union 1 and was co-owner of two construction companies.
Mr. Windhorst was a member of 32nd Street Church of Christ in Paducah.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Helen Mae Jackson Windhorst; one daughter, Susan Miles; three sons, Pat Windhorst and wife Pam, Mike Windhorst and wife Jan and Tim Windhorst; five grandchildren, Patrick Windhorst and wife Holly, Parker Windhorst and wife Jessica, Hank Windhorst and wife Kristen, Emily Wisdom and husband Jonathan and Mariah Windhorst; four great-grandchildren, Walt, Lucy, Leo and Jemma Windhorst; two sisters, Thelma Lawrence and husband Jim and Lois Konemann and husband Kenny; three sisters-in-law, Eleanor Windhorst, Bonnie Lillie and friend Dick Stewart and Linda Smallman and husband John; and several nieces and nephews,
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Keith Windhorst; one brother, Donald Windhorst; one brother-in-law, Raymond Lillie; and one nephew, Tony Lillie.
Funeral service was held Monday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Ron Griffin officiating.
Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Patrick Windhorst, Parker Windhorst, Hank Windhorst John Brandon Smallman, Raymond Walker and Chris Barfield.
