Nominations are being accepted for the Metropolis Rotary Club’s annual Les Easterday Community Service Award.

The award is given each year to a Massac County resident that has enriched the community through public service.

The award recognizes that person’s contributions to the community and encourages volunteerism by calling attention to the work and achievements of others.

All nomination letters should be submitted to Rotary Awards, Attn: Ken Kovacs, DJK Link Inc., 401 Ferry St., Metropolis, IL 62960 no later than Thursday, Oct. 17.

A Rotary committee will review nominations and select the recipient. The award will be presented during the Metropolis Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

An engraved plaque is given to the recipient and a donation is made to a charity of choice in that person’s name.

The award is named in honor of the late Leslie Easterday, who was active in Rotary and many other civic avenues, including the chamber of commerce.

The name of the winner will be added to the Les Easterday monument on the courthouse lawn.
