Dr. Norval R. Kelley, 88, of Metropolis, passed away on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013 at his home.

Norval was born on Aug. 3, 1925 in Union County to Aldolphus and Iva Kelley. He served as a radio operator in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Salt Lake City.

Norval was married on July 5, 1947 to Marcella J. Karraker and, in this union, they had three sons.

Dr. Kelley was a practicing chiropractor in Metropolis from 1954 to 1987, and a member of the First Baptist Church.

He was a devoted husband and family man and will be dearly missed.

Norval is survived by his wife, Marcella Kelley of Metropolis; two sons, Lloyd G. Kelley and wife Debbie of Brentwood, Tenn. and Kevin R. Kelley and wife Sheila of Metropolis; three grandsons, Rev. Matthew Kelley and wife Jessica, Andrew Kelley and wife Alexis and Karson Kelley; three stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Wayne Kelley; one brother, Amel Kelley; and one sister, Vertis Kelley Clutts.

Funeral service was held Friday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Dr. Calvin Cole and Rev. Matthew Kelley officiating. Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
