Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. Charles Tate and Vern Giltner officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Sterling Cemetery.
Rodney was born in Pope County but later moved to Metropolis where he lived until his passing. He was employed by Laidlaw Corp. and then the City of Metropolis until his retirement.
His first love after retiring was taking his grandchildren fishing. His second love was gardening, especially growing his tomatoes, taking pride in giving them to his friends and neighbors.
Rodney is survived by his wife Jean; one stepson, Don Powell and wife Debby of Nashville, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Donnie, Jennifer, Missy, Brian, Brandon and Morgan Powell; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three nephews, Russell, Gary and Jim Parmley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Ruth Parmley; two stepsons, Kenny and Brad Powell; two brothers, Major and Mac Parmley; and one sister, Paulene Cromeenes.
