Mr. Caldwell was an Army veteran and a member of the American Legion.
He was a postal service worker for 35 years and also a sign painter and screen printer for many years, with some of his most known works being Superman memorabilia seen throughout Metropolis.
Survivors include two daughters, Pam Angel of Metropolis and Cheryl Sexton of Calvert City, Ky.; one son, Doug Caldwell and wife Tina of Metropolis; four grandchildren, Lisa Graves and husband Steve of Metropolis, Ashley Woody and husband Troy of Reidland, Ky. and Shelby Caldwell and Shaun Caldwell, both of Metropolis; six great-grandchildren, Peyton Skees and Sydney Skees, both of Metropolis, and Kaylie Newbold, Mackenzie Woody, Haley Woody and Raegan Woody, all of Reidland; and one brother, Kenneth Caldwell of Lakewood, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ivy Seaton Caldwell; his wife of over 50 years, Jane Caldwell; and one granddaughter, Miranda Sexton.
Funeral service was held Monday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. Terry Moore officiating.
Burial followed at IOOF Cemetery in Metropolis with military rites conducted.
